Florist brings a bit of bravery to floristry
It’s fair to say that florists in Plymouth are not exactly renowned for their bravery, but there is one in particular who bade to outshine florists in Brighton, florists in Southampton and, indeed, florists all over the country this August.
Heidi Blake, the manager of Interflora-sponsored Yvonne’s Florist in Plymouth, performed a skydive from 15,000 feet last month to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in the town. The florist makes the effort every year to raise money for the hospice and this year managed to raise more than £500 as a result of the manager’s bravery.
Libby Carswell, a colleague of Heidi Blake’s, has stated that her manager is terrified of heights, which makes the feat all the more remarkable. The florist normally raises money for good causes by setting up sponsored walks in and around the area, but this year she was feeling extra brave.
Yvonne’s is one of Plymouth’s most established florists, having been providing beautiful bouquets to the public for over four decades. It not only makes the effort to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice, it also works hard to help Breast Cancer Care and The Poppy Appeal in their noble pursuits.
The florist is also keen to dedicate a lot of its time to the local community by taking part in festivals and activities. The Mutley & Greenbank Festivals, which run in May and December, hold firm places on the calendar at Yvonne’s so the florist can mix with the general flower-loving public and introduce more people to the wonderful world of flowers.
Working in conjunction with the leading flower experts in the UK, Interflora, the staff at Yvonne’s works hard to bring flowers to the people. They provide services in and around the area and, with the help of Interflora, also offer a delivery service that stretches across the nation and, indeed, across the world.
It is unclear whether the skydive exhausted Ms Blake’s bravery, but the florist is sure to continue its long-running hard work and dedication for good causes like St Luke’s Hospice, the Breast Cancer Care organisation and The Poppy Appeal over at least the next four decades.
Wax Crayons: Keeping Children Drawing
Wax crayons have supplied children with hours of entertainment ever since they were first created. Since their creation, they have taken on many shapes and colors and even evolved into colored markers. It is very tough to not find a crayon in a home where children live because every child loves to draw and a crayon is the best tool for that.
When these writing utensils were first introduced, there was a mass marketing of companies all competing to supply the best product. Once company overshadowed them all and continues to make high quality materials today. The company began their workings in 1903 and never looked back and as a result they are one of the largest suppliers today
The beauty of these writing tools is that they come in a wide range of colors so there is huge selection when coloring. They are also washable which makes it nice when children get a hold of them and draw on walls and such. In order to remove the coloring, a bucket of soapy water and sponge is required and also a little bit of scrubbing.
Regardless of the materials used to create the coloring equipment, the target audience always remained the same. The manufacturers all focused on children around kindergarten age as the group while they were brainstorming. The end result was an influx of different drawing tools that have continued to evolve into the ones used today.
Along with the crayon, chalk pastels have been quite popular for classrooms and artists of all ages. The chalk offers another avenue for creating beautiful works of art. Plasticine can also be found in classrooms and is also used by artists for creating clay models and other artistic items.
Wax crayons were just one of the original concepts brought into the world by inventors. However they remain among the most popular items chosen by children of all ages. Having a crayon to draw with is something special and every child should get to have that feeling at least once in their life.

Kitchen Decorating Style Trends
When looking to redecorate your kitchen you first have to decide want kind of kitchen decorating style you should go for. Certainly the choices that are now available will leave you baffled and bewildered but by remembering a few things about the kitchen the choice you make will be the right one for you. After the bathroom the kitchen is the most important room in any house and it should also be remembered that after the entrance hall to your home the kitchen has the most foot traffic occurring in it.
Below are provided a number of the more popular styles of kitchen that can be considered if you happen to be planning a remodeling or revamping of your current kitchen. It is also an idea to carry out some research as well by looking in house and home magazines, visiting kitchen showrooms, DIY stores, Kitchen Websites or even looking at your family and friends homes to see if they have a style that you like.
1. Country Style – Often called Early American or Colonial as it is designed to create a lovely quaint farm style kitchen. Often such kitchens will feature open shelves, pot racks and have the feeling of it being well lived in. Such kitchens are usually accented by the various colour schemes relating to the actual cabinetry of the units.
2. Contemporary – More and more often this style is being used because of its clean and simple lines. Often the cabinets are quite futuristic looking have no carvings or ornate features on them. With this style of kitchen the emphasis is put more on style and practical sophistication rather than beauty and that warm lived in feel.
3. Shaker – A simple and utilitarian style of kitchen that has flat panel doors, wooden countertops and brass handles (hardware).
4. French Country – Such kitchen designs based on this style are warm and inviting with lots of wood and soft colours being used. Not only do natural materials feature heavily in this style of kitchen, but you will find that the furniture used is large and rather ornate.
5. Arts and Crafts – Yet again another style of kitchen decoration which is becoming more popular because of the use of feature glass doors and natural wood tones which are finished off in a matt sheen effect. Certainly with this style of kitchen decoration there is the chance for you to be a little bit more artistic and creative in the design.
However, it is important when choosing a theme for you kitchen that you look at the designs and styles of the other rooms in your home to ensure that it fits in with the overall scheme of your home.
French Country Kitchen Decorating
When designing a kitchen, most people focus tightly on organization and efficiency. While those truly are important considerations, don’t forget to give your kitchen a personality as well as functionality. One classic kitchen decorating theme is the French country look.
A French country kitchen makes you feel as if you have just walked into a cottage in rural France. Such a kitchen reflects a joy of living and importance of family and friends. Whether you live in a high-rise urban condominium or a split-level in the suburbs, you can bring the warmth and beauty of the French countryside to your own kitchen. The combination of many small touches is what gives a French country kitchen its vibrant, romantic feel.
Color plays a major role in a French country kitchen. If you stepped into the kitchen of a French country cottage, you would probably find walls painted either a butter or mustard yellow, with cupboards painted cornflower blue or even salmon pink. Of course, you could choose to make your walls blue and use the lighter shades as accents.
In the country kitchens of France, natural light is part of the decor. Window dressings are often simple Roman shades. Fabric choices range from canvas to toile, solid to stripped or even prints of fruits, vegetables, or herbs. Speaking of herbs, one simple French country detail is the presence of lavender. Hang a bunch of dried lavender from a hook on the ceiling or the wall, or stand a clump in a wall vase, and you’ll bring the scent of the French countryside into your kitchen.
Accessories for a French country kitchen are almost always functional. A tall terra cotta or copper vase serves as countertop storage for spatulas and other cooking utensils. Open, freestanding racks made of copper or wrought iron hold plants as well as placemats, napkins, and serving bowls. Ceramic trivets with rooster or herb designs can be displayed on walls when not in use on the table.
A plain, pine work table doubles as a place for family and friends to gather for meals or simply to socialize. Be sure to choose a size table that won’t interrupt the traffic flow in your kitchen. If you have a very small galley style kitchen, you might want to skip this element. In the kitchen, the difference between cramped and cozy is enough to ruin any mood.
Since French country kitchens are small by nature, their owners make the best use of every possible space. Instead of traditional cabinets they often opt for vertical storage. Wrought iron ceiling racks keep frequently used pots and pans handy. Pot racks are very popular in kitchens around the world, and are therefore easy to find. In fact, you’ll be surprised at the wide range of styles and sizes available. You can achieve the French country look even if your kitchen doesn’t lend itself to an overhead pot rack. Strong hooks on the wall or on a solid core door will give save cabinet space and add to the country feel of your kitchen.
How To Get The Best From Online Flower Delivery
It’s your anniversary, it’s the birthday of somebody special to you and, though a series of unfortunate events, you forgot to send a gift. The important thing here is to not panic. The Internet has made anything possible and with a few cunning clicks of a mouse, you can make it look like you remembered all along.
The best online flower delivery is going to be provided by the site that is the easiest to navigate. A well thought out design is going to make it easy for you to select the right flowers for the occasion.
Look for flowers that are divided into sections related to the occasion. This takes the guesswork out of wondering whether a certain bouquet would be a suitable sympathy gift or a romantic gift.
If you are in a rush and need it there today, look for a section that promises same-day delivery. A lot of the flowers will have to be sourced and carefully arranged. This can sometimes take more than a few hours. To avoid disappointment, always pick from the fast delivery section.
You will want to make sure before you use the checkout function, that the company is close to the destination and what the latest time you can place an order is. If you do not check this, they may not be delivered that day and on time. The cut off period is usually around 1 or 2pm.
A good online service will give you the option of adding additional items to your bouquet other than just flowers. Chocolate, balloons and sometimes spa baskets can be added before you enter your credit card details.
Spa gift baskets are big sellers and they may make a nice addition to your flowers. They last longer and give the recipient the key to relaxation. If you are considering one, make sure you are buying quality and it is a fragrance they are going to like. You usually can’t go wrong with a lavender basket or a citrus one.
Different flowers come into season at different times and you should consider this when you are booking. For example, if it is early spring, consider Tulips, Orchids or Daffodils. If it is summer, you should look at Lilies, Rhododendrons or Daisies. When you pick the flower that is in bloom and local to your area, you are sure to give the freshest, prettiest bouquet that you possibly could
Tips for Choosing an Electric Space Heater
When the air temperatures drop outside the first thoughts most people have is how they’re going to heat their living spaces. Unless you have a fireplace or are lucky enough to live somewhere where it’s warm year round then your options are probably going to be limited to having to purchase an electric space heater of some sort. The only problem is there is a multitude of different styles of electric heaters on the market and knowing the differences can help you make the right decision for your heating requirements.
Electric space heaters come in a wide variety of styles such as coil convection, ceramic heaters and oil filled columns. Below is a rundown of some of the qualities of each of the various heaters that are on offer these days.
Electric Heaters – Convection Coil Heaters
These electric heaters use metal coils running through them to heat the space there in. The coils are constructed in such a way that they heat very quickly and you will be able to feel heat come from them almost as soon as they are turned on. One problem with the heated coils though is they get red hot and can be a fire hazard if left unattended of something flammable comes in contact with them. If you purchase a coil based heater make sure that it has a feature that if it ever gets knocked over it will automatically turn off and be careful that when the heater is turned on that there is nothing that can potentially be blown into the heating coils and catch on fire and never them in a room unattended.
Ceramic Heaters
Ceramic heaters seem to be the next generation of coil heater and are a great choice as they do not use as much electricity as some of the other heaters on the market and pump out a fair amount of heat from a small unit and are also very highly portable. These ceramic heaters use ceramic plates to retain and distribute the heat by having their ceramic plates attached just a few coils at the edges so they heat up fast and the ceramic plate draws the heat from the coils to distribute the heat into the room. Ceramic heaters also cool down much faster than straight coil based heaters which make them a much safer electric heater to operate.
Oil filled Heaters
These are the heaters that look like old radiators and are filled with oil which is heated to produce heat for the room they are placed in and seem to use less electricity then the coil based heaters. These heaters are popular due to their portability, safety and being fairly inexpensive to run. They are also fairly safe to leave on for extended periods of time as there are no exposed heating elements that can catch anything on fire and due to their size work well at giving off consistent heat in order to maintain a lot of warmth in a room at a fairly low cost on your electrics bill.
Cameras: The Different Types and Their Features
Taking pictures and videos have become a favorite activity in today’s world. The need and desire to document our special moments, daily lives or even just the moments where we feel vain have become an integral part of the world’s society. Here is a simple summary of the different types of cameras available in the market.
Analog cameras
Analog cameras are basically used to capture images using film. Before the age of digital cameras, these were used everywhere. Analog cameras are generally not much used now, as they produce the hassle of having to buy film and also running down to photo studios to get the film developed into photographs. However, some professional photographers still insist that analog cameras produce a much classier result, even though it takes more work. This is a subjective opinion, nevertheless.
Digital Cameras
Digital cameras have been ditched the old film system and instead produce images through an electronic image sensor. You get images in the form of data in a memory card. The advantage of digital cameras are that they are lightweight, allow you to take hundreds or thousands of photos at a go depending on your memory capacity, and lets you view a captured image immediately after taking it, allowing you to retake the photo if you did not get it just right. Most modern digital cameras are also able to take videos. They are divided into two general categories: point and shoot types and DSLR types. Point and shoot cameras are simpler device designed for casual shots, whereas DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras are higher end device suited more for serious photography.
Camcorders
Camcorders generally work in the same way as digital cameras, but their primary function is shooting videos. Previously, most camcorders required the use of videotapes, but nowadays digital camcorders are the trend. Digital camcorders are, like digital cameras, lightweight and allow you to move videos in data form to computers, making convenient editing possible. Digital camcorders usually come in two categories as well: standard resolution and HD resolution. The difference is HD camcorders are the higher end ones, with higher image resolution and better recording technology. Digital camcorders generally use onboard/external flash memory or internal hard disks to store data. Audio is captured together with the video by camcorders.
Instant cameras/Polaroid
These cameras are not that popular anymore after the emergence of digital cameras. They (mostly known as Polaroid cameras) are cameras that are somewhat the halfway line between an analog camera and digital camera. You take a picture and the camera produces an instant hard copy print of the photograph, which you can view after a few seconds. These devices use a special type of film to produce the prints.
Webcams
After instant messaging/VOIP became popular, webcams made their appearance. Webcams are cameras that send images in realtime to a computer. They are often used in video communication online, allowing someone far away to see you through their computer. Webcams can also be used to take photographs and videos. Most notebook computers have built-in webcams these days.
Besides the above, you can usually find cameras integrated into devices like laptops, mobile phones etc. You can sometimes even find low resolution cameras inbuilt into watches and pens! With technology advancing at such a fast rate, camera features and designs are also ever developing. 3D cameras are already in the making. Who knows what other options we’ll have in the future!
Custom Built Laptops Online
You have many options when coming to finding the best custom built laptops online. This is more of a service than it is a retail situation but what better place is there to find computing equipment than online? Shopping for custom built laptops online is quick and easy and offers you a substantial choice in vendors.
Shopping online is no longer a trend it is a way of life. Most consumers that have internet access will tell you that shopping online for anything is the best possible way to shop. People have found that shopping online is the most convenient way to shop. Shopping for custom built laptops online is absolutely no different than shopping for anything else.
Vendors
Vendors that provide opportunities for purchasing custom built laptops online come a dime a dozen this of course means that you will have to do your homework to make sure that you choose the right vendor.
You can always read independent reviews to get some consumer perspective on who is providing the best services. Of course this should be tempered with some common sense but definitely should be one of the things you review before you make a choice of which vendor to use.
Other Points
There are a few other points that you need to consider as well before you jump into having your custom built laptop built online. A key point goes back to the old saying ‘if it sounds too good to be true it probably is’. This means if you come across a vendor that is offering their services for a much lower price than like vendors are offering their service than you probably want to take a good hard look.
It is not that you can not find custom built laptops online super cheap it is that you do not want to go super below cheap because you will probably more than likely end up with a sub par unit. It sort of defeats the purpose.
You should always read the fine print when you are checking out a vendor. You do not want to wind up with a bag of components and a do it yourself manual. Make sure that you are clear on what you are getting for your money.
Finally use a vendor that has a strong reputation and one that offers a phone number you can call. Call the number first to speak with someone before you commit.
Purchasing custom built laptops online is a great way to get the laptop you want and to save a bit of money as long as you pay attention to whom you are buying it from.
It is often extremely difficult to locate a good first to die term life insurance policy and you certainly must always compare their respective rates. In many cases, a joint life insurance policy could cost the same amount of money or even be more expensive than purchasing two separate insurance policies because this type of policy is not as readily available as an individual policy would be; therefore the rates are often not nearly as reasonable. Most importantly, the policy will only pay one death benefit, so, if insurance on the second life is a necessity, then obviously two policies would be required.
